Abortion pill mifegyne is taken orally.  Cytotec is taken 24-48 hours after mifegyne if taken sublingually.  For vaginal insertion, there are less side effects like shivering, fever, vomiting and diarrhoea.

Abortion pill Singapore - DETAILED COST OF 1st consult and after

All women require doctor's consultation and ultrasound scan to determine medical fitness, gestation of pregnancy and exclude ectopic, twin pregnancy etc.  For low risk healthy women, the initial cost excluding mandatory counselling is about $180+gst.  For women requiring more medical care, the clinic extended consultation fees apply.

The fee for mandatory counselling for eligible women is about $40+gst.

We require proof of your blood group before issuing the pill.  If you have a copy, you can bring along at the first consultation for verification.  If you do not have, not to worry, we will arrange for your blood group to be tested.  Take note that abortion pills will not be issued till this is obtained

After paying the above, further payment is dependent on the patient's choice of type of abortion.

ABORTION PILL SINGAPORE PROGRAM

For abortion pill and 1 post abortion review to check status of abortion,  cost is about $500+gst (clinic extended consultation fees apply at each visit)

ABORTION PILLS AND 1 POST ABORTION review is $500+ GST(no medisave) ,CLINIC EXTENDED CONSULTATION POLICY APPLIES

This includes ONLY the following:

1. one set of abortion pill

2. oral painkillers 

3. mandatory post abortion counselling/ consult on day of pill issue (extended consultation fee applies)

4. oral simple anti vomiting pill domperidone

5. one follow up consultation visit (Extended CONSULTATION FEE APPLIES) with ultrasound scheduled for next clinic working day.

Medical abortion pill cost $500+GST and this is paid upon dispense of mifegyne (first abortion pill). The second abortion pill, 4 tablets of cytotec is included in the programme.  

There are no additional charges for vaginal administration of second abortion pill in the clinic.

There are no additional charges for mandatory post abortion pill counselling on the day of issue of first abortion pill.

In case of any requirement for after office hours medical care due to emergency, **Additional standard charges for hospital attendance and hospital charges apply and are dependent on treatment required.

This procedure is performed STRICTLY in hospital with strict infection control measures,  anaesthesia administered by a consultant anaesthetist avoiding involuntary movement, as your SAFETY is our utmost concern.

The current estimated cost for  surgical abortion procedure below 11 weeks and anaesthesia administered by consultant anaesthetist is from $3400 plus GST at Thomson Medical Center.  The total fees are higher at Mt Elizabeth Novena.  Medisave ($900) may be used for surgical abortion facilitated by the chosen hospital.

Saturday consultation surcharge of $30 applies.

Why is pelvic ultrasound necessary before abortion pill is issued?  This is to check location of pregnancy (abortion pill does not work for ectopic pregnancy) , determine gestation,  determine multiple pregnancies,  identify large growths eg fibroids

Is hospitalisation required for abortion pill Singapore?  No, the program is home based care.  However the abortion pills are administered in the clinic

What do I need to bring before starting abortion pill?  You require a copy of blood group.  If you do not have it, we can draw blood for this at the first consultation and the results are ready after the mandatory cooling off period of 48 hours.

What are some examples of concerns that require urgent medical attention after taking the abortion pills?  If you have severe bleeding , severe pain that is not controlled by painkillers.

What do I have to bring along on the Day 1 of abortion pill?  Do bring along water as mifegyne is taken orally.

What about Day 2 of abortion pill when cytotec is inserted vaginally?  Bring sanitary pads that you are comfortable.  Vaginal insertion is associated with less side effects eg. nausea vomiting diarrhorea headache shivering

How does abortion pill mifegyne work?  Anti progestogen - blocks progesterone and softens neck of womb

How does abortion pill cytotec work?  It causes uterine contractions to expel the fetal sac

What painkillers are issued with the abortion pills?  Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) and panadol are helpful.

For NSAID allergic women, what are strong painkiller alternatives during use of abortion pill?  Tramadol is an effective painkiller.  However, tramadol is associated with more side effects.
